The Earth Was Organized Out of Existing Matter Available in Space
Abraham 3:24; 4:1
24 And there stood one among them that was like unto God, and he said unto those who were with him: We will go down, for there is space there, and we will take of these materials, and we will make an earth whereon these may dwell . . .
1 And then the Lord said: Let us go down. And they went down at the beginning, and they, that is the Gods, organized and formed the heavens and the earth.
The Prophet Joseph Smith said:
“You ask the learned doctors why they say the world was made out of nothing, and they will answer, ‘Doesn’t the Bible say He created the world?’ And they infer, from the word create, that it must have been made out of nothing. Now, the word create came from the word baurau, which does not mean to create out of nothing; it means to organize; the same as a man would organize materials and build a ship. Hence we infer that God had materials to organize the world out of chaos . . . [e]lement[s] [that] had an existence from the time He had [and] . . . which can never be destroyed; they may be organized and reorganized, but not destroyed. They had no beginning and can have no end.”
