“First Seek to Obtain My Word”

Doctrine and Covenants 11:21

21 Seek not to declare my word, but first seek to obtain my word, and then shall your tongue be loosed; then, if you desire, you shall have my Spirit and my word, yea, the power of God unto the convincing of men.

President Spencer W. Kimball said:

“The Lord’s teachings have always been to those who have ‘eyes to see’ and ‘ears to hear.’ . . . So I ask all to begin now to study the scriptures in earnest, if you have not already done so. And perhaps the easiest and most effective way to do this is to participate in the [Gospel Doctrine] study program of the Church. . . . Over a period of [four] years the Old Testament, the Pearl of Great Price, the New Testament, the Book of Mormon, and the Doctrine and Covenants are all studied thoroughly.”
